Sheer window panel

“Today we stand at the cusp of new trends being bucked in favor of old ones. It is rare that something like this happens. They should give it a name, you know, like Hailey’s Comet.” Now that ladies, is how my friend Vanessa decided to describe the surge of sheer curtains, drapes and panels that we’ve all been witnessing over the last couple of months. As some one who has other interests in interior décor and fashion (curtains and drapes isn’t my only blog you know), I’ve seen this way too many times and read about it even more. It happened with pumps and then it happened with what has now become the timeless LBD. The little black dress was considered pretty cliché a few years back and was phased out of many women’s cupboards and into their attics as some of you might remember.

Sheer Panel

While reams could be (and I am sure will be) written about the reasons behind the return of the prodigal curtain, the need of the hour is to get a primer out. When the time comes, I assure you, your’s truly is going to be as guilty of the sheer panel madness as everyone else.

Back to the topic though. The one thing that was common between my grandmother and her home was that they both looked absolutely gorgeous in sheer. She in her white sheer wedding gown and her home in their white sheer window panel curtains. Both of these have evolved tremendously with sheer curtains now available in a myriad of colors and styles.

What colors are sheer panels available in?
When sheer panels were white, even though the always did manage to add a touch of class to any room they were put up in, were still something that you had to be pretty selective about. You couldn’t really express your individualistic creativity through then and that is what interior décor is all about if you ask me. It is an outlet for your creative urges. With every imaginable color from pink sheer to electric blue light silk, the range truly is amazing. If you’re having problems deciding which one to choose then there is an excellent paragraph or two on color matching at the end of the sheer drapery panels article. While that article doesn’t talk about it, there are also a lot of jewel tones that are available as well. Like I read on eHow while working to repair a tear in my drapes, the window sheer isn’t your grandmother’s sedate curtain anymore.

What size sheer window curtains should I go for?
The one that suits you best. I’m not trying to be smart here, it is just that it is impossible for me to tell you what size to go for without knowing what kind o window you’re going to put it on. Instead, I’ll pen down some guidelines that should help you choose the right sheer curtain.

Know that sheer curtains are meant to drape in the truest sense of the word. Since they’re so light, you need to get a little more than normal to get some opacity into the play here. That way, you could choose between light and privacy with the same curtain and not have to pull heavier drapes over the windows. Ideally, go for 1.5 times the width that is required.
